Description:  

Sophia McRae (University of Freiburg) will present a case study within her doctoral research project on the potential of cooperative business models to support the long-term sustainability and economic resilience of independent organic retailers in Germany. This study is part of a multi-level transdisciplinary research project that explores the mechanisms, impacts, and scaling potential of cooperative food economy governance for the sustainability of regional food economies.

Speaker: 

Sophia McRae is a research associate at the Humboldt Professorship for Sustainable Food Economy at the University of Freiburg, directed by Prof. Dr. Arnim Wiek. Her research focuses on sustainability innovations in food retailing, particularly through cooperative and community-based approaches, and the ecosystem services required to support and scale cooperative food economies.
