Join SCORAI’s Next Cross-Pollination Session
What really happens, psychologically, when people from different cultures, disciplines, and backgrounds come together to solve today’s biggest sustainability challenges? That’s the question at the heart of our next Cross-Pollination session, hosted by SCORAI’s Working Group on Community & Collaboration (WG CoCo).
This session will be led by Dr. Francesca Scafuto, a Health and Community Psychologist at the University of Pisa, whose work explores how scientists, artists, and practitioners can find common ground to co-create sustainable, resilient, and flourishing communities.
What to Expect
Dr. Scafuto will guide participants through the psychological dynamics that shape cross-cultural, cross-disciplinary collaboration — the trust-building, motivation, and shared meaning-making that turn diverse groups into effective problem-solving communities.
The discussion will draw on lessons learned from the Common Ground Festival, a gathering widely described as positive, motivating, and empowering, where scientists, artists, and practitioners actively worked together toward shared solutions. Together, we’ll unpack:
- The psychological factors at play when diverse groups collaborate on grand challenges
- Key takeaways and open questions from the Common Ground Festival
- How to carry these lessons forward into transformative, real-world action
Why This Matters for Sustainability Communication
Effective sustainability communication isn’t just about facts and figures — it’s deeply human. Understanding the psychological undercurrents of collaboration can help researchers, communicators, and practitioners design more inclusive, empowering, and lasting initiatives for community resilience and sustainable change.
