New Book Launch: Vocabulary for Sustainable Consumption and Lifestyles – A Language for Our Common Future

We’re excited to announce the official launch of Vocabulary for Sustainable Consumption and Lifestyles – A Language for Our Common Future, a collaborative project two years in the making that brings together practitioners, researchers, policy-makers, and change-makers in the field of sustainable consumption and lifestyles.

About the Book

This comprehensive vocabulary aims to foster conversation and exchange in what has historically been a fragmented field of action. The e-book is now available Open Access, providing a shared language for those working toward sustainable futures.

Recent Presentations

The book was featured at two major conferences in 2025:

SCORAI 2025 in Lund – The editorial team hosted a workshop exploring the concepts presented in the book.

ERSCP 2025 in Prague – Philip and Halina delivered a keynote presentation showcasing how the vocabulary enables conversations that build bridges between diverse perspectives in the field. They presented different entry points to Sustainable Consumption and Production, covering its history, current debates, and applications. A workshop explored connections among the book’s many concepts and how conversations about these can unite advocates who sometimes work in distinct silos.

Join the Conversation

To continue building momentum around this work, the editorial team has created several opportunities for engagement:

  • LinkedIn Group: A new “Sustainable Consumption and Lifestyles” group has been established for editors, authors, and interested parties to connect and share ideas
  • Recommended hashtags: #futurelifestyles #sustainableconsumption #sustainablelifestyles #CommonFuture

Get Involved

A survey is currently open to explore which concepts are most frequently used in the field, helping identify both starting points for conversations and areas where dialogue is still needed. Understanding concept usage patterns can help connect researchers and practitioners working on related topics.

The book represents an important step toward creating a shared language in sustainable consumption and lifestyles research and practice. We encourage the SCORAI community to explore the vocabulary and join in fostering the cross-disciplinary conversations our field needs.
